Beginning
Canavan Scenic & Light, Inc. was incorporated in
1996 with the goal of providing outstanding service in our specialty of
Lighting and Scenery services to Corporate Theater, Tradeshows and Business
Meetings Worldwide. We quickly established a superb reputation based upon service, professionalism, and excellence.

Michael
Canavan,
President, (MikeC@CSandL.com)
began his interest in productions, working on local community shows for the
Bicentennial in 1976. He received a BFA in Lighting Design and Technical
Production from the North Carolina School of the Arts, one of the top 3
Performing Arts Schools in the country. From 1984-1987, Mike was Technical
Director of three performing arts facilities doing Symphonies, Operas,
Ballet, Drama, Musicals, Concerts, etc. During that time, he was actively
involved in hundreds of live performances and special events.
Mike moved to
Washington DC for 2 years, where he worked in various positions on a variety
of projects including Washington Redskin Football on CBS, Concerts for The
Who, Pink Floyd, Madonna, and President G.W. Bush’s Inaugural, as well as
numerous Corporate Shows and Special Events on The Mall.
Continuing up the East
Coast, Mike spent 5 years in New York City. As a free-lancer he worked on
numerous Fashion, Television, and Corporate events. His clients included
Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Bob Mackie, Geoffrey Beene,
Politically Incorrect, HBO Downtown Productions, Toy Fair, CBS Affiliates
Meetings, etc.
With the birth of his
daughter in 1994, Mike moved to Orlando to specialize in Corporate Events.
In 1999, Mike and his wife welcomed a baby boy to their family.
Kelly Thomas,
Office Manager,

has previously served her country for eight years in the United States Air
Force as a financial management technician. While in the Air Force, Kelly
became a mother of two daughters and one son. After receiving an honorable
discharge, she worked as an office manager for a local stage and scenery
construction company for five years, then joining the CS&L team.
Kelly is currently working on her Business Degree at Valencia Community
College.
Steve VanVarick,
Shop Foreman,
born a native New Yorker, Steve has worked in the Exhibit/Scenery industry
for over 20 years in and around New York. He left his job as a City Manager
for an Exhibit Installation Company in Manhattan and moved to the Sunshine
State in 2003. Recently married, Steve is proud of his new family.
Thomas Dempsey,
Project Foreman,
is a bit new to the fatherly role, but none of the less, extremely proud of
his young daughter. Tom has started his hard working career in the
carpentry business just a little over 16 years ago. He works on everything
from commercial, residential, stage and scenery, and also building custom
homes with his brother. He has worked on such projects as the "Cabbage
Patch" house and the two story "Barbie" house, both of which can still be
found in New York's Times Square Toys'R'us. He has also put his carpentry
skills to work on the actual Sesame Street set for the "Sesame Street" IMAX
movie at MGM Studios.
