CS&L Teammates
Michael Canavan, President, (MikeC@CSandL.com) began his interest in productions, working on local community shows for the Bicentennial in 1976.  He received a BFA in Lighting Design and Technical Production from the North Carolina School of the Arts, one of the top 3 Performing Arts Schools in the country.  From 1984-1987, Mike was Technical Director of three performing arts facilities doing Symphonies, Operas, Ballet, Drama, Musicals, Concerts, etc.  During that time, he was actively involved in hundreds of live performances and special events.

Mike moved to Washington DC for 2 years, where he worked in various positions on a variety of projects including Washington Redskin Football on CBS, Concerts for The Who, Pink Floyd, Madonna, and President G.W. Bush’s Inaugural, as well as numerous Corporate Shows and Special Events on The Mall.

Continuing up the East Coast, Mike spent 5 years in New York City.  As a free-lancer he worked on numerous Fashion, Television, and Corporate events.  His clients included Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Bob Mackie, Geoffrey Beene, Politically Incorrect, HBO Downtown Productions, Toy Fair, CBS Affiliates Meetings, etc.

With the birth of his daughter in 1994, Mike moved to Orlando to specialize in Corporate Events.  In 1999, Mike and his wife welcomed a baby boy to their family.

Kelly Thomas, Office Manager, (KellyT@CSandL.com) has previously served her country for eight years in the United States Air Force as a financial management technician.  While in the Air Force, Kelly became a mother of two daughters and one son.  After receiving an honorable discharge, she worked as an office manager for a local stage and scenery construction company for five years, then joining the CS&L team.  Kelly is currently working on her Business Degree at Valencia Community College.

Steve VanVarick, Shop Foreman, born a native New Yorker, Steve has worked in the Exhibit/Scenery industry for over 20 years in and around New York. He left his job as a City Manager for an Exhibit Installation Company in Manhattan and moved to the Sunshine State in 2003. Recently married, Steve is proud of his new family.

Thomas Dempsey, Project Foreman, is a bit new to the fatherly role, but none of the less, extremely proud of his young daughter.  Tom has started his hard working career in the carpentry business just a little over 16 years ago.  He works on everything from commercial, residential, stage and scenery, and also building custom homes with his brother.  He has worked on such projects as the "Cabbage Patch" house and the two story "Barbie" house, both of which can still be found in New York's Times Square Toys'R'us.  He has also put his carpentry skills to work on the actual Sesame Street set for the "Sesame Street" IMAX movie at MGM Studios.
